Ian O'Brien - 'Desert Scores' (Peacefrog)
First album from Ian O'Brien now re-released on Keep Diggin' recs

I am proud to announce the re-release of 'Desert Scores', my first album originally released in 1997 on the Ferox label. It is now re-released on the Keep Diggin' label (www.keepdigginrec.com ) and features an extra track 'Monkey Jazz' not available on the original release. It's available on CD or 2x12" in shops now or through the usual online retailers, eg amazon.co.uk etc.For those who've not heard this album you can check out extracts on the samples page. Also check a short interview on the keep diggin site. Why release this album again? After its initial, somewhat small production run, 'Desert Scores' was never pressed again despite demand, and was not available again in the shops barely six weeks after its release. This situation reflects the nature of independent label record distribution rather than the wishes of artist / label / buyer. Distributors are constantly being bombarded with new releases and, however frustrating it may be to everyone, it is normal for records on small labels to come and go in this fashion. Releases can be 'dropped' after only a few weeks as and when another record of more interest or sales potential to the distributor comes along. If the label in question should cease trading, as most small labels seem to sooner or later, then the record may never see the light of day again. This has been the fate of 'Desert Scores' since Ferox records was disbanded a few years back. Despite interest, 'Desert Scores' has been unavailable in shops for around five years until now. A lot of techno/electronic stuff from this era has dated pretty poorly, and whilst this record definitely is my first in terms of its production and direction, I feel it is still fresh and has something to offer the listener in 2002. It is an honest piece of work, made during a simpler time in my life. It was a real pleasure to create.
